Christiaan van der Klaauw
Signature
In 2009 Daniël & Maria Reintjes decided to focus exclusively on astronomical watches, and ‘Astronomical Watches’ was added to the name. Under their stewardship, the brand underwent a metamorphosis, a new collection and beautiful astronomical complications ensued. With this astronomical path they designed a new CVDK logo and a distinctive astronomical CVDK signature design ensuring recognition in every CVDK watch from that point onward.
The CVDK signature design
The main characteristic of the CVDK watches is the astronomical complication, with each timepiece boasting one or more astronomical complications. Characterized by a uniform round case design, the watches are instantly recognizable by Roman hour indexes positioned above an imaginary horizon. These Roman hour indexes taper slightly to align harmoniously in case of rays on the dial. Atop this imaginary horizon, the new CVDK sun logo is astronomically positioned at the pinnacle
of the day, marking the 12 o’clock position.
The design of the CVDK logo features a ‘sun with 12 claws’, paying tribute to the meaning of ‘Klaauw,’ which translates to claw. One claws is rotated 12 times (12 being a significant astronomical number) to form the most prominent star in our Solar System, the Sun. With this unique ‘horizon’ design, a perfect space naturally emerges at the 6 o’clock position. Here, the astronomical complication is situated, always complemented by a dial embellished with rays or starry material. The transparent case-back showcases a beautiful CVDK rotor, matching in design with elements of the CVDK claws logo.
The CVDK signature dial material
They also decided to choose and design a distinctive signature dial material: the now iconic 'Aventurine Glass' dials. These CVDK dials infuse each timepiece with a mesmerizing star-filled sky that dynamically evolves with light, offering an enchanting spectacle on your wrist. A fitting canvas for showcasing the intricate astronomical complications found on every CVDK watch.
